Nineteen Pennsylvania internists and ERG Partner John Nikoloff attended briefings and participated in meetings with Pennsylvania Congressional staff in May. The group met with staff of both US Senators and all 18 Congressional offices.
The ACP priorities that were discussed included improving the care of patients with chronic disease; improving health information technology; improving telemedicine; integrating behavioral health into primary care; stemming the increase in opioid abuse; rising prescription drug costs; and more effective funding for Graduate Medical Education.

The Gettysburg Energy and Nutrient Recovery Facility (GENRF), owned and operated by EnergyWorks Biopower, greeted key Pennsylvania, Maryland and EPA officials this month, who visited the plant to observe the unique operation and better understand its potential to help achieve Chesapeake Bay pollution reduction goals.
GENRF is capable of using 240 tons of egg layer manure daily to produce 3.25 MW of electricity, while removing more than 1 million pounds of Nitrogen, 25,000 pounds of Phosphorus and converting another 12,225 tons of Phosphorus feed ingredients annually from the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The facility eliminates long-term storage and land application of manure.

More than 30 pediatric residents, all members of the PA Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics came to Harrisburg in June to urge elected officials to increase pre-K education funding. Research shows high quality pre-K programs not only prepare children for success in school and in life, but they also promote good health in childhood and into adulthood.

As part of the annual meeting of the PA Chapter of the American College of Physicians (PA-ACP), students from Einstein Medical Center are named state Medical Jeopardy champs; PA-ACP members attend a business meeting with special guest PA Secretary of Health Michael Wolf; and awards are given to distinguished members for their service to ACP and the medical field.

ERG Partners tours EnergyWorks BioPower’s energy and nutrient recovery facility on land adjacent to the Hillandale Farms operations in Adams County. This is the first nutrient credit generator certified under the state’s Nutrient Cap and Trade program using gasification technology. ERG was thrilled to have played a major role in seeing this project to fruition.

Senator Gene Yaw and the North Shore Railroad held a Public Officials / Customer Appreciation train ride to discuss the importance of freight rail operations in Central PA, and to showcase some of the projects and developments along the Lycoming Valley Railroad. LVRR is one of six rail lines that NSRC operates as part of a unique partnership with the SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority.

The Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway (W&LE) hosted local officials in Green Tree, Pennsylvania for a tour of Rook Yard. Participants boarded a locomotive and witnessed firsthand the capacity constraints of train movements within the yard, as a result of increasing car volumes and the location of three new customers.
